Film Analysis:
A mature signal-caller, Sam Hartman touts a deep portfolio of the skills necessary to compete at the highest level. Average athlete, but makes his money inside of structure, where he’s shown the ability to win pre-snap for a multitude of seasons. Advanced processor and is quick to scan through progressions at a variety of depths. Quick release and consistently throws with anticipation. Pinhole accuracy at times and displays a high level of precision both in clean and crowded pockets. Decisive working up the seam. Showcases excellent touch to layer throws over opponents, as well.
Under pressure, Hartman’s internal clock can be delayed at times, but he touts excellent footwork and the ability to slide around defenders while keeping his eyes up. Plays at his own pace. Arm strength remains average but anticipation and ball placement will allow him to operate an expansive playbook.
As a runner, Hartman isn’t afraid to tuck and run but will quickly find trouble against more athletic defenders.
Concerns remain about his mechanics, where he often misses high due to his inability to drive through his front shoulder. Remains tall in the pocket but has to work downhill to drive throws consistently within intermediate areas. Patience is fantastic but extended time inside the pocket often leads to sacks (Clemson).
Overall, Hartman is an experienced and productive prospect whose ability to win between the ears will interest teams in need of fresh legs under center.
