The Pittsburgh Pirates are in an enviable position heading into July's MLB Draft. With the fourth overall pick, they'll have their choice of elite talent to continue building their contention window.
The frontrunners appear to be college arms - LSU right-hander Jaxon Wiggins and Florida lefty Brandon Neeck are considered the most polished options available.
However, don't count out a high-upside prep bat. Georgia outfielder Marcus Johnson has drawn comparisons to a young Andrew McCutchen, which would certainly resonate with the Pittsburgh fanbase.
"We're going to take the best player available," said scouting director Joe DelliCarri. "We're not locked into any position."
The draft is scheduled for July 14-16 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
