Nazir Stackhouse serves as an important part of a Georgia defensive front that has been ranked toward the top in many defensive categories over the past few years. Stackhouse fills the role of the physical, hard-nosed defensive tackle who is utilized on early downs to be a force to stop the run, set offenses behind the chains, and allow Georgia's pass rushers to be activated on third downs. Stackhouse has a thick, powerful base combined with upper-body strength that serves as the foundation for his ability to produce high-level reps against the run.
At the snap, Stackhouse shows to have a quick first step. That, partnered with his overall mass, generates enough power to sustain the line of scrimmage, making it difficult for offensive linemen to double-team him and work to the scone level. In one-on-one blocking situations, Stackhouse collides with an offensive lineman and then uses his upper-body strength to lock them out and have the opportunity to shed and make a play on the ball-carrier. On plays where he has to work upfield, Stackhouse has a quick first step to get into gaps and can occasionally disrupt the structure of run plays and make a play in the backfield.
Stackhouse's improvements as a player ties into his lack of ability to be a more consistent threat as a pass rusher. As of now, Stackhouse’s A-trait as a pass rusher is him using strength via a bull rush or converting speed to power to collapse the pocket. But, offensive linemen who have above-average strength can anchor and prevent Stackhouse from pressuring the quarterback. Stackhouse also needs to develop a counter-move. Once his initial move is stopped, he becomes stagnant in his rush and fails to continue to work to get pressure on the quarterback.
Overall, Stackhouse should enter the NFL and help stop the run as he continues to work on other facets of his game such as consistency and his upside as a pass rusher.
