Film Analysis:
Miyan Williams enters the NFL draft after being a four-year contributor at Ohio State. His 2022 season was his most productive, and he was a key contributor to the Ohio State rushing attack.
From the snap, Williams shows to have good vision with the ability to scan frontside to backside to find any creases in the defense. Williams gets to these holes using an effective jump where he jump-cuts from multiple gaps to get into the hole. On zone runs, Williams is a high-instinct player and does a good job of tempoing the run and setting up second-level defenders to attack the wrong gaps and vacate gaps. Once in the hole, WIlliams runs with good pad height, which helps him run through initial contact and break arm tackles. Williams finishes runs strong and is usually in a position to fall forward and pick up extra yardage.
Williams' limitations as a player surround what appears to be a limited athletic profile. Williams does a good job of creating the opportunity for big plays with his lateral cuts and instincts for the position but isn't able to convert them into big plays because he lacks the speed to run away from defenders. In multiple situations, Williams will get caught from behind by defenders. Williams lacks explosiveness and his speed limits yards gained for the offense.
Overall, Williams' profile makes him an ideal candidate for short-yardage situations. He can be a reliable backup and a potentially valuable part of a by-committee backfield in the NFL.
