Kris Abrams-Draine is an alignment-versatile corner whose short-area quickness and ball skills will allow him to see the field early at the next level. He’s played more than 480 snaps at nickel and outside corner. Extremely nuanced defender inside the contact window where punch timing and hand usage are excellent.
In zone, Abrams-Draine is a constant communicator whose instincts shine in open grass. Quick to diagnose concepts and work off primary assignment to make a play on the football (7 career INTs). Open-field tackling must improve, however.
In man, Abrams-Draine utilizes a side-saddle technique to keep opposing wideouts in front. Fluidity in backpedal needs fine-tuning if a team eyes him as a perimeter corner. His most success comes in press-man where his quickness and lateral agility make it tough for pass-catchers to release off the line of scrimmage. In off-man, Abrams-Draine can be beaten by more sudden route-runners due to a lack of pop out of his T-step. Limited top-end speed, also (LSU).
Against the run, Abrams-Draine will often ankle hunt and will fail to wrap up often leading to whiffs (Kentucky). Willing to attack downhill, but must improve in one-on-one opportunities technically. Currently projects as a rotational secondary contributor who should earn time on special teams immediately. Inside-out experience will intrigue teams, but he currently projects as a bit of a tweener where his earliest success could be seen at nickel on Sundays. His foot quickness, technique in press, and awareness with the ball in the air should see him earn snaps early on in his NFL career. Aggressive defenses that prioritize physicality and the ability to play press-man will have a liking for Abrams-Draine’s skill set.
