Film Analysis:

At 6-foot-6 and 325 pounds, Jeremy Flax has impressive overall size and wingspan that combined with his athleticism gives him a great foundation to build on to become a reliable starting offensive tackle in the NFL. Flax has easily translatable traits in his skill set for both the run game and in pass protection.

In the run game, Flax shows to have good first-step quickness and makes initial contact with defenders on the line of scrimmage. Flax has the athleticism to cut off the backside of run plays. On plays where Flax has to work to second-level defenders, he has the athleticism to do so and can make the contact necessary to make an effective block.

Pass protection is where Flax’s overall size and wingspan play a positive part. In his pass set, Flax likes to play a heavy inside leverage alignment on defenders, which forces them into two options: running the arc around him or trying to convert speed to power and bull rush. When defenders choose to run the arc, Flax does a good job simply maintaining leverage and using his wingspan to run them deep around the arc, allowing the quarterback to step up in the pocket or escape via the spot the defender just vacated. When defenders decide to convert speed to power, Flax can shoot his hands and control the rush. With Flax’s overall size, he can anchor down on defenders and stop any type of penetration into the pocket

Flax's improvement as a player centers around his ability to finish in the run game. Flax makes good initial contact but fails to stay attached and run his feet through the initial contact. This results in defenders being able to shed him or slip under blocks to make a play on a ball-carrier. With Flax’s size, he should be able to be a powerful run blocker but he needs to improve the details of his run blocking for his full potential to be met.
