Jamari Thrash transferred to the Louisville program from Georgia State and immediately became one of the most reliable targets in this Louisville offense. Thrash's two best traits, his fluid route-running and his ability to track the ball, consistently show how effective he is as a receiver.
Thrash is a versatile receiver who has a repertoire of releases based on his alignment and whether he is being pressed or receiving off coverage. Once into his route, Thrash does a good job of mixing tempos with his ability to accelerate and decelerate quickly. Working the middle of the field, Thrash shows to be a high-IQ player in understanding zone defenses versus man and when to sit a route down instead of continuing to carry a crossing route. After the catch, Thrash has an element of elusiveness to his game and can make the first defender miss occasionally or accelerate past them. Thrash also has the ability to track the deep ball. At both Georgia State and Louisville, Thrash showed he is a natural ball tracker who can track the ball over his shoulder consistently and make difficult catches in stride.
Two elements of Thrash’s game appear to be concerning. First is his down-the-field speed. Although Thrash wins at the line of scrimmage and can stack defensive backs effectively, he fails to separate and put distance between himself and the defensive back. The other concern that arises with Thrash is his ability to catch the ball away from his body, which limits his contested catches. Because he is a high-percentage body-catcher, defensive backs who stay in phase have an opportunity to knock the ball loose.
Overall, Thrash is a skilled receiver who appears to be most effective as a versatile slot receiver who can win with route-running and IQ.
