Film Analysis:
A transfer to South Alabama from Tuskegee (HBCU), Jamaal Pritchett is an explosive playmaker who has the athleticism and creativity after the catch to create chunk plays.
Credit to South Alabama for the ways in which they got Pritchett the football. He was constantly on the move pre-snap, either relocating to the far side of the formation or on return motion. He has been featured target on designated touches but has also showcased the ability to separate in a stagnant alignment either in the slot or on the outside. Natural hands-catcher and does well to remain competitive throughout the process with larger defenders in his hip pocket. Good route-runner, but improvement is needed in his release package against quicker and longer DBs that can disrupt timing early in the rep.
After the catch is where Pritchett’s profile intrigues. He’s excellent in the open field where his tempoing of speeds, toughness, and outstanding first step can leave defenders behind him. Pritchett can change direction in the blink of an eye, and his ability in the open field should also earn him opportunities on special teams.
Quick footwork but he does fit into the bucket of a ‘choppy stride’ that fails to pick up ground. He has rapid foot turnover with the ability to cover ground and laterally relocate. Instinctive pass-catcher against zone who can rip behind LBs and quickly turn his head to holster targets. Pritchett also does a nice job of maintaining his speed with the ball on arrival, failing to allow trailing DBs to make up ground. Expanding on his playmaking ability, Prtichett also earned snaps at running back in 2024, showcasing his versatility and experience attacking defenses from different alignments.
Overall, Pritchett is a quick-twitch wideout whose ability to create chunk plays will intrigue teams. He may get the label of a gadget player at this stage of his career due to the ways South Alabama utilized his game, but in my evaluation, it’s a credit to the coaching staff for their ability to maximize what was clearly their top offensive playmaker. Moving forward, inside an NFL offense with more talent around him, Pritchett could evolve into a multi-phase contributor offering contributions both on offense and on special teams despite his size limitations.
