Jake Majors is an extremely intelligent center prospect with a keen understanding of defensive concepts and alignment, who, in time, projects as a starter for an NFL front five despite his lack of length and positional versatility.
As a run blocker, Majors displays a strong understanding of leverage and angles, excelling in zone-based schemes where he can use his quickness to reach second-level defenders and execute combo blocks effectively. While not an overwhelming power player, he compensates with excellent hand placement and the ability to stay engaged on defenders. Won’t drive players away from their spot, but does a nice job of keeping his body in between his opponent and the ball-carrier. Good mobility allows him to get out as a puller, a unique skill that only a few centers in the NFL display. Also has displayed the ability to work around the front hip of a frontside 1-tech, an impressive trait at the position.
In pass protection, Majors’ awareness and processing speed stand out. He quickly identifies stunts and blitzes efficiently, rarely allowing defenders to exploit gaps in protection. Can locate a blitzer from the second-level pre-snap with ease (Georgia), a trait that will translate immediately. Hand technique is refined, and he plays with a wide base to maintain balance against power rushers. However, his lack of anchor can be exposed against higher-level interior defenders with more twitch, length, and power. If ground is initially lost, Majors recovers well and competes through reps, but his ability to consistently hold the point of attack against NFL-caliber strength remains a question mark.
Primary concerns with Majors stem from his physical profile. He lacks ideal length and play strength which may cap his ability to be a true difference-maker in the run game, and while his technique helps mitigate some of these concerns, there are times when he struggles to finish blocks against defenders with superior physical tools (Ohio State).
Overall, Majors projects as a technically sound, high-IQ interior presence. His intelligence and movement skills make him an ideal fit in zone-heavy schemes, and his reliability in pass protection will appeal to teams in need of an experienced pivot. He profiles as a solid depth piece with the potential to develop into a serviceable starter in the right system.
