Film Analysis:
Stanford’s WR1, Elic Ayomanor is a highly competitive and nuanced wideout whose experience and maturity are showcased in his tape due to his understanding of leverage, tendencies, competitiveness, and elite spatial awareness against zone coverage. Ayomanor is a powerful yet elusive wideout with many of the traits that showcase a future offensive weapon at the next level.
Primarily aligned on the perimeter, Ayomanor showcases a variety of releases to work off the line against man or zone. Displays a quick inside stab, crossover, and a hesitation move to keep DBs off balance and honest in their technique. Excellent possession receiver in the shallow areas. Quick to gain separation on slants and in-breakers (Clemson), which often presents Ayomanor the chance to extend the play after the catch. Powerful frame to push corners on his outside hip, only to break back toward the quarterback.
Ayomanor does a nice job of presenting clear throwing windows for his quarterback at a variety of depths. Would like to see a more diversified route tree, as slants and nine routes make up the majority of his route architecture. Showcases good hands, not elite, and drops must improve (six in ‘23, seven in ‘24). More of a focus thing than a talent thing at this point in his evaluation. After the catch, Ayomanor is a dynamic athlete who can outrun corners and safeties working toward the ball from depth. Acceleration is evident and Ayomanor can pull away from chasing defenders. Has the skill set to take it the distance on each touch, a dynamic trait teams could prioritize highly in the draft, especially at his size. He single-handedly won Stanford the football game against Colorado in 2023 (13 rec, 294 yds, 3 TDs). He’s also a willing blocker on the perimeter that hunts for contact.
Concerns remain about a high chest at the line of scrimmage, something more advanced corners will take advantage of. Colorado’s Travis Hunter had a field day when aligned in press-man at times, punching and pressing Ayomanor in his upper half, as did Clemson corner Avieon Terrell. Hinging at the waist even slightly will reduce the angles and overall surface area for corners to target at the snap.
Overall, Ayomanor is a highly intriguing wideout whose best football remains down the line. Considering his size and movement profile, Ayomanor has the chance to evolve into a top-three weapon in an NFL offense.
