Daequan Hardy is an instinctive corner with the alignment versatility to provide depth inside a secondary. His value will come at nickel, where his ability to play inside the contact window is evident. Not a physical corner, but is willing to mix it up with larger wideouts at the line of scrimmage. Small with room for added strength.
In man, Hardy’s eyes and instincts showcase an experienced corner with an understanding of route concepts and timing. Can at times lose leverage due to slow feet and tight hips, but overall does a nice job of maintaining his coverage principles. Long speed is evident but quick acceleration when asked to change direction allows wideouts to gain separation quickly. More nuanced and twitchy pass-catchers will give Hardy issues within the contact window. Sits heavy on his heels in press man. Won’t grab if beaten, but consistent separation is evident.
In zone, Hardy’s versatility and athleticism showcase well. Has snaps in the box, perimeter corner, and at free safety, showcasing his range. Teams that value playmaking corners instead of advanced technicality as a pure cover man at the position will prioritize Hardy.
Hardy is an electric special teamer both as a gunner and a return man. Remains one of the premier returners in the 2024 draft class (two PR TDs in 2023).
Overall, Hardy is an undersized and unrefined prospect to project as a core piece within a defense but is a player whose immediate path to snaps will come on teams with the potential for rotational snaps at nickel.
