Cody Schrader is a former D-II standout (Truman State) that walked on at Missouri. He primarily worked in a zone-base blocking scheme for the Tigers in 2022 and 2023. Tough ball-carrier that doesn’t put the football on the ground. Always falls forward and hunts for contact in the alley.
He has experience taking carries aligned in the pistol and shotgun as the lone tailback. Approaches the line of scrimmage with violence. Acceleration isn’t elite but arrives at contact like a freight train. Arm tackles and diving at the ankles leave defenders in his wake. Quick to ID his alley yet patient to allow the play to develop. Best when bouncing from hole to hole inside the tackles, quickly working up to the second level. It doesn’t take Schrader long to work North-South. Short, choppy steps allow Schrader to change direction quickly but he does not tout the foot quickness to rapidly pull away from defenders. Lack of twitch and burst showcases when pressing outside, as well.
Schrader’s evaluation as a pass-catcher remains intriguing. Caught 21 of 25 targets in 2023 and a heavier workload on passing downs could showcase an untapped phase of his game. Sure hands and quick to work upfield. Route-running is underdeveloped but could quickly improve if asked to execute a more diversified route tree other than curls, wheels, and leak-outs.
Overall, Schrader’s competitiveness and willingness to compete showcase a player all 32 clubs have a spot for. His athletic profile won’t jump off the screen, but a team in need of a youth-infused talent with experience as a bell-cow should not overlook Schrader. He’s the type of talent that will outwork names higher on a depth chart, ultimately resulting in playing time.
