Film Analysis:
Brock Bowers is a plus athlete and mover. Bowers is dynamic and explosive in the open field. He is dangerous with schemed-up manufactured touches. Bowers generates explosive plays by creating yards after the catch. He flashes good route-stemming, attacking leverage against off-coverage.
Bowers is a difficult cover on shallow crossers and deep over routes. He has the speed to pull away from his defender once he stacks them. The burst he displays after the catch is impressive. His most impressive trait/skill is his ball skills. Bowers is outstanding at high-pointing and on back-shoulder fades. His strong and reliable hands allow him to win those contested catch situations. Bowers' play strength and body control are outstanding. At the catch point, he maintains his position despite the physicality of the defender. Bowers’ relentless motor and energy are infectious.
Due to the way Georiga used Bowers, he does not face press-man coverage often. In the last two seasons, Bowers has faced man coverage on 23% and 12.7% of his snaps, respectively. Bowers benefited from a scheme that helped free him up. He received a lot of easy access to open space within the defense and zone coverages. He does not have a robust release package right now. He is adequate at creating separation but can improve with better route-running and an expanded route tree.
Bowers’ in-line blocking needs consistency. He has the motor and strength but needs consistency with his technique. Bowers does not always maintain blocks at the point of attack.
Bowers projects as a day-one starting tight end utilized to prioritize his explosive run-after-catch ability. Bowers still has room to grow as a route runner and natural separator. The combination of his open-field speed and physicality after the catch makes him a dangerous zone-beater.
