Film Analysis:

Bo Nix is a five-year starter with plenty of experience at the helm of two college offenses. Nix has the caliber of arm strength to drive the ball in the middle of the field and outside the numbers. The film shows him fitting passes into some tight windows. He has a loose/flexible arm to change angles and slots to fit passes around defenders. He can push the ball down the field and up the seams with relative ease.

Nix thrives off quick passing concepts—isolation vertical routes, RPOs, and quick screens are in his wheelhouse of comfort. Nix is a plus-athlete with the mobility to be a reliable dual-threat quarterback. He has a good short-area burst to get out of the backfield if flushed by pressure. Nix presents the ability to improvise and create with his legs, which is needed in today’s NFL.

For as experienced as Nix is, he is far from a slam dunk pro-ready quarterback. From a processing standpoint, there are questions. Oftentimes, he was given the answers by Oregon’s offense with easy first reads and concepts. He does not quickly work through progressions and find solutions when the first read is taken away immediately. Inconsistency with his accuracy and ball placement shows up on film. This can be attributed to his footwork in the pocket. Nix can be described as bouncy and toesy. He is not consistently ready or lined up to throw. His feet can be static and stagnant in the pocket.

Nix projects as a high-end backup quarterback with starting potential. As an older prospect, his developmental arc is enticing, yet questionable. The tools to be a quality starter in the NFL are there. The questions I have are, can he work the deep areas of the field consistently? The average depth of target (aDot) decreased from Auburn’s offense to Oregon’s. Also, Nix needs to be consistent with layering the ball over underneath defenders. Nix has some Baker Mayfield to his game and that gives me hope.
